Overview
This Fulbright award supports Bruneian university faculty, think tank researchers, and professionals to undertake non-degree postdoctoral research in the United States for 3 to 9 months. The programme promotes academic growth and mutual understanding between Brunei and the U.S., with research placements starting as early as August 2026 and no later than May 2027.

Eligibility

  • Open to Brunei citizens only

  • Preference for full-time university faculty with at least 5 years of professional experience

  • Also open to researchers and professionals in non-profits with doctoral degrees or equivalent experience

  • Applicants should not have had extensive recent experience in the U.S. (i.e. over 6 continuous months in the last 5 years)

  • Medical clearance required upon selection

Description
Participants will carry out independent research in collaboration with American academics or field experts at U.S. universities, think tanks, or institutions. Priority is given to research in the social sciences, humanities, or interdisciplinary/policy-focused projects within the natural and applied sciences. Focus areas include:

  • U.S. society and culture (e.g. politics, history, literature, law)

  • Contemporary societal challenges (e.g. tech disruption, education reform, energy, urbanisation)

  • Transnational issues (e.g. trade, migration, health policy, environmental concerns)
