Applications have opened for the annual IEAGHG (International Energy Agency Greenhouse Gas) Summer School for Young Researchers and Scientists.

This year, the prestigious event is taking place in Indonesia 12th -19th July 2020 at the the Bandung Institute of Technology in Bandung Indonesia

All accommodation, meals and materials will be provided by the event sponsors and there are no fees associated with attendance. However, you will need to fund your own travel to the venue.

IEAGHG’s Summer Schools are the only Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) education programs to have a truly international focus. With the location moving around the world – The program has now taken place in over 7 countries covering Europe, Australia, Asia and North America.

With experts attending from all over the world, summer schools bring a diverse range of students from a variety of technical backgrounds. The summer school now has over 550 alumni representing over 50 countries with many moving on to successful careers within CCS industry and academia.

The Programme

The Summer School programme covers every aspect of CCS and aims to present the most recent information available in each field. The topics covered include:

  • All aspects of capture, transportation and storage of CO2
  • Industrial uses of CO2
  • Costs and economic potential of CCS
  • Regulations, policy and GHG accounting
  • Public communication
  • Health and safety
  • About the Summer School

Up to 60 students will attend and the Summer School which will run over a packed 5 day schedule. A field trip is usually a highlight of the week and is dependent on the host’s location and expertise. Group work is encouraged during the week with a day set aside for networking, career talks and group work presentations.

The Summer School is a great opportunity for networking and informal discussion with a range of experts attending (over 20 from both industry and research) who are all world-leading scientists in a wide range of fields. Who Can Apply for the Summer School?

The target group for the summer school is young scientists and researchers, e.g. PhD students with a background in engineering, geo-technologies, and socio-economics. This can also include those in the early stages of their career within 5 years of graduation currently seeking a greater understanding of CCS.

To apply for a place at this prestigious CCS summer school please complete the application process below when the process opens (TBC).  Incomplete forms and applications will not be accepted.  We will notify all applicants of our decision by early April 2020.

The application process will require: 

Letter of support from your supervisor (Max. 300 words)
Current CV (Max. 1 page)
Covering letter (Max. 600 words)

The letter of support from your supervisor should clearly state your English proficiency (a good level of spoken and written English is required) and qualities which make you an ideal candidate for the IEAGHG International Interdisciplinary CCS Summer School.

The letter of support should emphasise how you will use what you have learnt at the Summer School when you return to your position. Please include your supervisors name, position and connection to you.  (Max 300 words)

As a guide, your Curriculum Vitae (CV) should include: educational background (including university AND school qualifications), work history, conferences attended (if applicable), publications (if applicable), accolades and extracurricular activities.

Your letter of application provides you with the opportunity to stand out from all the other excellent international applications IEAGHG expects to receive this year. Explain to us why you should be selected for the 2019 IEAGHG CCS Summer School.

Include your interest(s) in CCS, future career aspirations, what you feel you can bring to the Summer School. Most importantly, please explain how you will benefit from the Summer School and subsequently use and share what you have learnt. (Max 600 words).
