Internews EJN is offering two media grants valued at $20,000 each to enhance reporting on infrastructure development and its environmental impacts in Southeast Asia. This initiative is part of the Strengthening Transparency in Infrastructure Development Through Environmental Reporting in Southeast Asia (STRIDES) project, backed by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor.

Eligibility and Application Process

  • Geographical Eligibility: Media outlets from Brunei, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Laos, Singapore, and Thailand.
  • Experience Requirement: Must have prior experience in journalistic capacity-building.
  • Language Requirement: Applications must be submitted in English.
  • Content Rights: Grant outputs may be edited and republished by Internews EJN.

Project Themes and Objectives

  • Focus: Projects should aim to elevate public awareness and debate on infrastructure projects and their socio-environmental impacts.
  • Activities Supported: Includes journalistic training, investigative reporting, and the development of innovative media tools.

Grant Details

  • Amount: $20,000 per grant, with preference for smaller-budget proposals.
  • Duration: Projects must be completed within 12 months starting from August 2024.
  • Budget Requirements: Detailed budget justification is required; equipment costs should be minimal.

Judging Criteria

  • Relevance: Alignment with STRIDES goals and regional environmental concerns.
  • Innovation: Creative approaches in journalism that address underreported issues.
  • Impact: Potential to enhance public understanding and policy engagement.

Successful applicants will be notified in June 2024. Applications should highlight previous achievements and outline a clear monitoring and evaluation plan. Proposals that include co-financing are encouraged but not mandatory. EJN support must be acknowledged in all published materials.
