This is the SEAREG Predoctoral Fellowship, offered by Duke’s Center for International Development. It supports aspiring scholars from Southeast Asia who plan to apply for PhD programmes in the U.S. or Canada, by offering a microgrant and one‑on‑one mentorship to strengthen their applications.
Eligibility:
• Must be a resident of a Southeast Asian country (citizenship not strictly required, but priority to strong regional ties)
• Must have completed or be completing an undergraduate or master’s degree in Southeast Asia
• Intend to apply to PhD programmes starting Fall 2026
• Academic interest in Southeast Asia, in political science or closely related social science fields (e.g. public policy, political economy, sociology)
Description:
Selected fellows receive a USD 1,000 microgrant to help cover costs like application fees, GRE, TOEFL, etc. Fellows are paired with a mentor who provides feedback on personal statements, writing samples, and other PhD application materials through up to three mentoring sessions (between October and December 2025). There is also a possibility of a short‑term research assistantship with SEAREG‑affiliated faculty if agreed upon.
