Land is Life is accepting applications for Cohort V of its Indigenous Women’s Program Fellowship, a year-long programme supporting emerging Indigenous women leaders who are advancing Indigenous Peoples’ rights, gender equality and community well-being. Fellows receive financial and technical support to develop a practical project in their own community while strengthening their leadership, networks and advocacy skills.
Eligibility:
- Open to Indigenous women from all seven sociocultural regions worldwide, including Asia.
- Applicants must be aged 18–35.
- Applicants must be fluent in English, French or Spanish.
- Previous Land is Life fellows are not eligible to apply again.
- Priority is given to applicants who do not hold a master’s or doctoral degree.
- Priority is also given to applicants from countries not previously represented in the fellowship.
- Applicants must propose a community project promoting Indigenous Peoples’ rights, with particular attention to Indigenous women and girls.
- A recommendation letter from an Indigenous Peoples organisation, community representative, territorial leader or equivalent official source is required.
Description:
The fellowship runs for one year and combines community-based project implementation with mentoring, training and peer learning. Fellows design and carry out a project that must be completed within 10 months, with potential themes including climate and environmental justice, land and territorial rights, food sovereignty, health and well-being, sustainable livelihoods, economic empowerment and Indigenous governance.
Participants are expected to take part in bimonthly virtual training and peer-learning activities while supporting their communities in advancing Indigenous Peoples’ rights. The programme also helps fellows strengthen their leadership and participate more effectively in local, national and international decision-making spaces.
