Deadline: 27th September 2026 | Put your problem-solving skills to the test in a global online mathematics competition for students worldwide.

The International Youth Math Challenge 2026 is an international mathematics competition for high school and university students who enjoy tackling creative and challenging problems. Conducted online, the competition gives young mathematicians the chance to test their abilities beyond the standard classroom curriculum, gain international recognition and compete for prizes and awards.

Eligibility:

  • Open to high school and university students worldwide.
  • Students from any country may participate.
  • Participants are placed into age or level categories, with qualification requirements adjusted accordingly.
  • No specific nationality or residency restrictions apply.
  • Participants need internet access and basic equipment such as paper and a pen.
  • English ability is useful because some problems may involve research-based material, although the competition supports multiple languages.

Description:

The competition consists of three stages: a Qualification Round, a Pre-Final Round and a Final Round. The Qualification Round allows students to work through a set of mathematics problems covering different areas and levels of difficulty, with submissions due by 27 September 2026.

Successful participants progress to a supervised online Pre-Final Round, followed by a digitally monitored Final Round for the highest-performing students. Problems may include mathematical puzzles, proofs, applied questions and tasks requiring creativity as well as technical ability.

Because the competition is conducted online, students can participate from their own country without travelling.

Benefits:

  • More than US$1,500 in total cash prizes across the competition.
  • International 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for top performers.
  • Gold, Silver and Bronze Honours.
  • National awards recognising strong performers from individual countries.
  • Official participation certificates.
  • International recognition for mathematical achievement.
  • Opportunity to join a global network of talented students interested in mathematics.
  • Eligible students may later become IYMC ambassadors and help promote mathematics in their communities.
