Join this exciting one-year fellowship programme to build your skills, expand your network, and take your conservation impact to the next level

The ASEAN Young Biodiversity Leaders (YBL) program builds capacity and relationships for young ASEAN leaders in biodiversity conservation to enhance youth-led implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans.

Each year, 2 Youth Biodiversity Leaders (YBLs) aged 18 – 35 will be selected from each ASEAN Member State to form a YBL Cohort. YBLs are provided at least 1 year of online and in-person training and guidance, including participation in public webinars and a one-week capacity building workshop.

What?

Young leaders are already taking the future in their hands. Youth-led conservation efforts such as awareness raising campaigns, coastal clean-ups, online task forces to combat illegal wildlife trafficking via social media, amongst others, are already contributing to the fight against biodiversity loss.

To truly scale young people’s impact, the Youth Biodiversity Leaders (YBL) Fellowship provides one year of in-depth capacity building and mentorship and networking opportunities for select young leaders in the region. YBLs will receive training in: (1) Policy and (2) Skills.

Fellowship curriculum and content will be delivered through online sessions and in-person activities, in collaboration with the Global Youth Biodiversity Network Southeast Asia regional node (GYBN SEA).

Who?

2 Youth Biodiversity Leaders aged 18 – 35 will be selected from each ASEAN Member State to form a YBL Cohort. Youth Biodiversity Leaders are advocates of biodiversity and leaders of conservation efforts in their respective locations.

They should demonstrate prior and on-going commitment to conservation; possess the ability to share and implement the results of the programme as widely as possible; and apply the skills they will gain to improve and better strategise their existing conservation and outreach efforts.

Youth Biodiversity Leaders are likely founders of (or key personnel in) youth-led NGOs, university nature clubs, or community conservation efforts.
