The Rainforest Investigation Network (RIN) Fellowship is a funded, full-time fellowship for experienced investigative journalists passionate about environmental and cross-border reporting. Fellows will work on ambitious investigations focused on deforestation, illegal activities, and the systems contributing to rainforest degradation.

The programme supports journalists from tropical rainforest regions — including Southeast Asia — and encourages collaborative, data-driven reporting projects with real-world impact.

Eligibility:
• Open to experienced investigative journalists with a strong reporting track record
• Staff and freelance journalists can apply
• Applicants can work across print, video, radio, multimedia, or digital platforms
• Freelancers must have support from a newsroom willing to publish their work
• Applicants should have strong knowledge of environmental, political, legal, or social issues linked to rainforest destruction
• Cross-border and collaborative reporting experience is encouraged

Description:
Selected fellows will spend one year pursuing in-depth investigative projects related to rainforest degradation and deforestation. The fellowship supports both individual and collaborative investigations across Southeast Asia, the Amazon, and the Congo Basin.

Applicants are encouraged to propose original and ambitious story ideas that uncover hidden or systemic wrongdoing. Fellows may also use innovative reporting methods, including data investigations and environmental monitoring tools.
