The Commonwealth Fellowship Programme 2026/27 gives professionals and university academics from eligible Commonwealth countries the opportunity to build their skills, exchange knowledge and develop collaborations through a placement with a UK host organisation.

Eligibility:

  • Open to citizens of eligible Commonwealth countries
  • Applicants must be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country and currently employed
  • Professional Fellowship applicants must have at least five years of relevant full-time or equivalent part-time work experience
  • Academic Fellowship applicants must hold a PhD and be employed by a university in a Commonwealth country outside the UK
  • Applicants must provide at least two references, including one from their current employer
  • Applicants must not have undertaken a Commonwealth Fellowship within the past five years
  • Additional requirements may apply depending on the selected UK host programme

Description:

The programme has two tracks: Professional Fellowships for mid-career professionals and Academic Fellowships for university academics.

Fellows undertake professional development, knowledge exchange and networking with participating UK organisations, with the aim of applying what they learn after returning home.

Professional Fellowships run for around six weeks to three months, while Academic Fellowships run for three months, with programmes beginning in early 2027.

  • Monthly living allowance of £2,218, or £2,753 for Fellows based in the London metropolitan area
  • Arrival allowance of up to £1,247.09
  • Additional support of up to £1,000–£2,000 for approved courses, conferences or programme-related travel
  • Additional disability-related support may be available following assessment
