Deadline: October 8th 2025 | Train with a global cohort to boost intercultural teaching and global competence.
Overview
AFS Intercultural Programs is offering a free, 8-month virtual professional development programme called AFS Global Virtual Teacher Training 2026 (also known as the “AFS Effect+ for the Classroom Program”). It’s designed to help high school teachers build intercultural teaching skills, connect with peers around the world, and earn a certificate in global competence.
Eligibility
This is open to current high school or secondary school teachers (working with students aged around 14–18). You must be proficient in English and able to commit to:
• Participating in the “Global Up Educators” certification
• Implementing at least one toolkit activity with your students between January and June 2026
• Attending at least 75% of live sessions
Joining peer communities is optional but encouraged.
Description
The programme is fully online and runs over 8 months. It begins with a 6-week certification called “Global Up Educators,” which blends self-paced video modules, live sessions, online forums, and quizzes. Participants receive an Educator Toolkit with lesson plans and activity guides, and are expected to run at least one student project using these resources. The experience also includes opportunities to reflect, collaborate, and grow alongside fellow educators from across the globe. Successful participants will earn the AFS Global Competence Certificate.
Benefits
Participation is fully funded. Teachers gain access to high-quality teaching tools, join a global network of educators, and receive formal recognition through the certificate. There’s also a chance to connect student projects with the Cyril Taylor Young Leaders Awards. It’s a valuable opportunity to strengthen your ability to foster inclusive, globally minded classrooms.
