The prize is run by Commonwealth Writers, the cultural initiative of the Commonwealth Foundation. They inspire and connect writers and storytellers across the world, bringing personal stories to a global audience.

Commonwealth Writers believes in the transformative power of creative expression in all its forms. They work with local and international partners to identify and deliver a wide range of cultural projects. Their activities take place in Commonwealth countries, but their community is global.

Prize:

Regional winners receive £2500 and the overall winner receives £5000

Rules:

  • Entrants must be citizens of Commonwealth countries.
  • Only one entry per writer
  • The story must be the entrant’s own unpublished work (work published on personal blogs and websites is allowed)
  • Wordcount between 2000 and 5000
  • Entries should be uploaded as a PDF document
  • There are no restricitons on setting, genre or theme
  • The story should be adult fiction
  • Entries should be Arial 12 font with double line spacing
  • Use the story title as the file name
  • The first page should include the name of the story and the number of words
