The YSEALI Academic Fellows Program (YSEALI AFP) is a prestigious U.S. government-funded exchange for young leaders across Southeast Asia. It brings selected undergraduates and recent grads to the U.S. for immersive academic and cultural experiences—designed to strengthen regional ties and empower youth-led change.
Eligibility:
• Citizens or residents of ASEAN countries (including Brunei)
• Aged 18–25 by the deadline (some flexibility for outstanding applicants over 25)
• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate program
• Proficient in English
• Not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Eligible for a J-1 visa (covered by the program)
Description:
Participants will join one of two cohorts—Spring (April–May 2026) or Fall (Sept–Oct 2026)—and attend a U.S. university for five weeks. You’ll dive into academic coursework, leadership development, field trips, community service, and cultural exchange. Program tracks include Civic Engagement, Natural Resources Management, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, or Society and Governance.
